“Some moms worry that princesses make girls obsessed with beauty. But I think the problem is that the popular princesses lack what psychologists call an “internal locus of control.” This is the belief that you are responsible for making your way in the world.”
I read that quote and thought that made a lot of sense. It’s not so much the frillies and pinkness of Disney Princesses (they are girls and love of sparkles are just in the genes)…but the fact that all the stories involve a Prince coming to their rescue instead of showing that the Princess can rescue herself…that she has the fortitude to pick herself up and make her own way into the world. Ultimately, that is what I want to teach Olivia …. an internal locus of control (love that!).
