We recently booked a glamping experience an hour away from home. It was our first weekend as official “Empty Nesters” since we dropped off our daughter at college the week before. I wanted to kick off this new life status with something to look forward to.
I found a glamping experience on AirBnB in an old barn, complete with hay on the floors. We never ‘glamped’ before, but since we have experience in backcountry camping we figured we could totally handle this — and we did! It was so charming and unique, we just loved it! Complete with the goats just behind the other side of the barn wall (we didn’t smell them at all) and the cows down the lane who were apparently at a rave party all night long – the sound coming out of that barn was hilarious! It was a perfect escape for a long Labor Day weekend. Below are some highlights of the trip.
We explored the area of Keedsyville, MD which was perfectly situated between Harpers Ferry and Fredrick, MD … both great towns to explore. Below are a few places we checked out.
Crystal Grottoes caves was surprisingly fun and interesting!
Climbed the tower and checked out the views at Washington Monument State Park
Visited a new winery to us … definitely be back to this one. Big Cork Vineyards
Also drove through Antietam Battleground park and visited the winery. Listened to some great music and ate amazing brisket from the food truck. Also stopped by our favorite ice-cream place, Nutters. We used to stop here all the time when my sister lived in Shepherdstown, WV.
On Monday we met some friends to go kayaking down Devils Backbone Creek.
