Lately, Olivia has been very sassy. I’m surprised that this behavior starts so early. She’ll roll her eyes and say “Moooooommmmmmm”. Or put her hand on her hip and say, “I knooooowwwww, you don’t have to tell me.” Just the little things that you know if you tolerate now, will become major problems at age 12 and 13. And nothing irritates me more than to watch children disrespect their parents in public…I just hate that!

So lately, Dan and I have really been trying to nip this little trait right in the bud. We call her attention to things she says that we consider being sassy; so she understands what it means. We also, act immediately on this behavior with time out or privileges being taken away. It’s hard, but important that we be consistent. We have seen some improvement.

However, she still has her moments. One evening when we were driving home late at night, and Olivia was in trouble for being sassy. I commented to Dan in the front seat, that perhaps it was just too close to her bedtime and she was overtired, thinking that was the reason for her sassy behavior. I said, “maybe we just pushed her too much tonight since it’s past her bedtime.” Well, Olivia in the back seat chimes in, “Yes, Mommy…I think you just pushed me too hard tonight, I am very very tired.”

LOL Dan and I gave each other a look and could hardly contain ourselves from laughing. Little ears are ALWAYS listening now. I need to remember that!
